Lily's First Day of Pre-K

Wow, what a difference a year makes! Last year the whole house was aflutter, getting Lily ready for her first day of pre-school. This year was more like, "oh yeah, Lily starts school tomorrow I think...." (Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration.)Last year she was nothing but excited, and this year she was a bit nervous. We have been talking all weekend about how we'd have to leave her at the door so she could go in and start her jobs right away (putting away her lunchbox, etc.) and she started wailing early this morning that she wanted me to go in with her. When it came down to it, she walked in with only slight hesitation and the promise of an after school treat (is that a bribe?).

Her teachers are super sweet and she has some old friends and some really sweet new kids in her class, so I know she will have a great day. I'm just praying she has homework because she's been REALLY excited about that since her teachers told us about it at Meet the Teacher last week. Her eyes got so wide, and she had an immediate swagger. Yeah, that's right- I'm big, I have homework like my sister.

It really seems surreal that she is going to be 5 in just three short months. It is such a cliche, but the time really does go so fast. I love her more with each passing stage, so while it does seem a little sad that our baby and toddler days are long gone, it sure beats the alternative. And it doesn't make me so sad that I want to go out and get another baby or toddler. At all. Lily's right-- big kids are where it's at.
