That's my nickname for casseroles, and while it started as a slightly disparaging way to refer to non-ethnic (like Italian) white people's answer to one-dish dinners, I have found myself making casseroles quite a bit lately. Turns out those lacy-Bible cover ladies were really onto something. Last week for church I made turkey pot pie (aka Turkey White People Surprise) and today I made sort of a beef stew pot pie thing (the things in the picture with the biscuits on top), as well as baked penne and a big batch of chili. Does this count as nesting? Anyway, in the picture I included the cookbook I got the pot pie recipes from. Turns out my mother-in-law knew years ago that I had country cooking in me somewhere. It was just trapped deep inside that food snob city girl exterior that has quite obviously crumbled like bleu cheese. Apparently all I needed was house church to bring it out of me.
And here's a picture of my adorable brother Kevin (left) and his boss, Blake Shelton (center). They were in town on Friday night for a show. It was fun to see them both, but I started turning into a pumpkin about halfway through the show. I am way too old to stay up for a show that doesn't even start until 11:15. But I'm glad I did because it turns out that tall drink of water puts on a good show.

Hey. I'm reading your blog tonight. Love all the details. We had our rehearsal dinner at Little Rhein when we got married... 14 years ago. It's still a great place for a steak. See you tomorrow night. Hugs, sm
